Commonwealth Games Wales is delighted to announce a new partnership with the Welsh Independent Schools Council (WISC), who join as the latest official partner of Team Wales in the lead-up to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The collaboration will see WISC working alongside Commonwealth Games Wales to promote sport, education, and youth development, while encouraging greater engagement and opportunity for young people across Wales.
Rebecca Edwards-Symmons, CEO of Commonwealth Games Wales, commented:
“We would like to give WISC a very warm welcome in joining the organisation as another superb addition to the partnership family. The values shared between Commonwealth Games Wales and WISC – particularly around youth development, education, and ambition – make this a natural and exciting fit.”
The partnership will offer pupils from across Wales the opportunity to connect more closely with the Commonwealth Games movement, while championing the values of teamwork, resilience, and Welsh pride.
Emma Verrier, CEO of the Welsh Independent Schools Council , added:
“As the only organisation solely representing the independent school sector in Wales, the Welsh Independent Schools Council is incredibly proud to be supporting Team Wales over the next three years. We were particularly drawn to this partnership for its strong sense of Welsh identity and its commitment to inclusivity—values that resonate across our diverse school communities.
It’s vital that our learners have the chance to engage with and be inspired by these athletes—not just as sporting role models, but as representatives of determination, community, and pride in our nation. We’re excited about the opportunities this partnership offers for our schools to connect more deeply with the spirit of Welsh sport and culture.”
This new collaboration marks another milestone in the preparation for Glasgow 2026 and highlights the importance of cross-sector partnerships in supporting Welsh athletes and communities as we near 12 months until the 23rd Commonwealth Games begins.
