Greenfields School proudly recognised International Nurses Day on 12th May 2026 through a powerful and vibrant piece of student artwork, celebrating the essential role nurses play across the world.
The striking collaborative artwork reflects both the global reach and human impact of nursing, with a central image of the world symbolising how the profession connects people across different countries and communities. Surrounding this are bold and colourful representations of key healthcare symbols, including the medical cross, heartbeat monitor, syringe and stethoscope, each illustrating the diverse and skilled nature of nursing practice.
The use of bright colours and layered design highlights the complexity, energy and resilience required within the profession. Each section of the artwork contributes to a larger, unified image—much like the nursing workforce itself—where individuals come together to provide care, protection and support across a wide range of settings.
At its heart, the artwork emphasises the importance of compassion, empathy and care, values that underpin nursing and resonate strongly with the ethos at Greenfields School. The inclusion of heart imagery reinforces the message that nursing is not only a clinical role, but one deeply rooted in understanding and supporting others during significant and often challenging moments in their lives.
This creative response provided pupils and staff with the opportunity to reflect on the importance of healthcare workers while developing their own artistic expression and understanding of global professions. It also aligns with Greenfields’ commitment to promoting wellbeing, respect and appreciation for those who support others, values which are embedded across the school community.
Although International Nurses Day has passed, this artwork remains a meaningful reminder of the ongoing contribution of nurses and the importance of recognising their work beyond a single day of celebration.
Greenfields School extends its thanks to all nurses for their continued dedication and contribution to society.
