Estyn inspections have become stricter under the new framework, particularly regarding compliance with SCR standards. During a recent inspection, a school was challenged on its checks for prohibition from regulated activity under 24(3).
Estyn initially questioned whether an enhanced DBS with barring check was sufficient, but after review, they acknowledged that no further checks are required. The school has now added a tick box to their SCR to confirm barring checks are completed for staff.
This serves as an important reminder for all schools: The distinction in the regulations ensures that enhanced DBS checks include barring, not just standard enhanced checks. Please keep this in mind for future inspections to avoid unnecessary scrutiny.
